If you are a writer - copywriter, ghost-writer, article writer, sales writer, author, etc. - and you don’t have a Web presence - or you need to improve your current Web presence to help you stand out from the competition - this series of articles “How to Create a Web Presence” - was written for you.

In fact, having a Web presence - the RIGHT kind of Web presence is SO IMPORTANT to your business that you might want to subscribe to our RSS feed - see the orange button on the right side of the page?  Just click it and follow the easy instructions - it takes about 3 seconds to add it to Google reader.  (If you’re not familiar with RSS feeds, it’s like having a personal assistant who grabs copies of our latest articles for you - and lets you know that there’s a new one ready to read.)

When Dan and I started working with our first beta testers, we heard the same two objections about creating a Web presence:

  • I don’t have the technical know-how or expertise to design, build and maintain a Website
  • It’s too expensive. I can’t afford to pay a Web designer and it costs too much to host and do all that “stuff” you have to do

But do you want to know a “secret” that’s really not such a secret?

There are over 9 million people who online every single day to find information and solutions to their problems.

If you don’t have a Web presence, you’re going to get left behind in your competitors’ dust.

Your Web Presence should be part of the Overall Marketing Strategy for your Writing Business

Having a well-thought out marketing strategy is just as important for your writing business as it is for your clients’ businesses - which is just one of the reasons you need to understand how to create a strong and unique Web presence.

If you’re not already online, you need to take the first steps and get started now.  If you’re technically challenged, or you just don’t want to do it yourself, that’s one of the perks of being a student at the Writer’s Business Academy - we’ll actually do all the heavy lifting for you - and build your Website for you.  BUT - you will also learn everything you need to know to maintain it and add content to it - so you’ll never be held hostage by a Website designer, have to pay the high fees or wait for someone else to make changes or add content again!

Here are just a few of the ways having a strong Web presence will help you when you’re building a profitable writing business by helping you to:

  • Recruit, Recognize and Retain Clients

  • Spotlighting your expertise, abilities and solutions
  • Increasing your celebrity or expert status and credibility
  • Becoming known as an expert in your field

Having a Web Presence Also Makes It Easy To:

  • Target your audience (whether you’re trying to reach clients, fans, j.v. partners, etc. you can give them the information they’re looking for
  • Keep your name in front of your audience
  • Recognize your clients, fans, supporters and jv partners
  • Create a feeling of community
  • Stay in touch with people who are not in your community or geographical area

I found a good website to help you build your web presence. http://www.LookupPage.com helps web users achieve top ranking on Google. You can also post links on your LookupPage- which will help your blog, press releases and other content you wish to link to get better results.

Having a web presence is crucial to success in any type of business today, but for writers, it is the core of your writing career.
In addition, I agree with everything mentioned in the article, because I have lived it. In the past year, I have found that blogging and social networking are effective tools for anyone who wants to establish and maintain a strong and positive web presence.
Lastly, I found the eight bulleted tips at the end of the article to be helpful and was relieved to see I have done five of them. I need to learn more about RSS feeds, in particular, what they can do to enhance your online presence.
